  • Overview

    To act as Senior Maintenance Machinist for the Sun-Sentinel Production Maintenance Department.  Responsible for designing, engineering and fabricating equipment parts; mechanical maintenance and repair of the production related equipment to ensure maximum availability, and reliability to the users.




    • To coordinate and maintain a parts fabrication and repair center for the production maintenance department.
    • To perform preventive maintenance on all machine shop equipment.
    • To identify problems with processes or equipment requiring corrective action or maintenance and to communicate these to the Shift Supervisor.
    • To diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine the need for adjustment or repair to ensure maximum reliability to users.
    • To perform preventive maintenance functions and repairs according to department programs and within the specified time frame.
    • To work effectively with co-worker in solving problems and to communicate incomplete work and problems from shift to shift.
    • To ensure that safe, established work habits and methods are used to maintain a clean and safe work area.
    • To maintain timely and accurate maintenance records and reports in order to track the reliability of preventative maintenance programs.
    • To recommend parts for repair of replacement and to help maintain current inventory levels.
    • Input all work in to a maintenance management system.
    • Maintain current inventory levels by removing the part from inventory as it is consumed in the maintenance management system.


    These responsibilities listed above are only the major responsibilities not to include all responsibilities that you may be asked to do in the course of your daily activities.





    • Should have a high school education or equivalent, with approved apprentice training program of four years. Two-year minimum experience in industrial equipment maintenance and repairs. 
    • Ability to read and understand equipment schematics, blueprints, manuals, and to use related test equipment.
    • Must have own tools including precision measuring instruments to include: Outside micrometers to 3 inches, depth micrometer, inside micrometer and dial indicator with mount.
    • Experienced in the use of machine shop equipment and tools, lathe, milling machine, drill press, surface grinder and power tools.
    • Must be able to weld. Preferable all types, Mig, Tig and Arc.
    • Must be able to diagnose and repair production equipment in a timely and effective manner to assure its properly functioning condition.
    • Must be able to lift equipment that will weigh up to 50 1bs. Must be able to lay down under raised equipment. Must be able to walk for extended periods of time.  Must be able to bend and kneel in order to work on hard to reach equipment. 
    • Must be able to work in conditions that may be unfavorable. This could include varying temperatures, dusty condition, greasy and dirty areas, and some work out of doors.
    • Must be able to operate fork lifts and scissor lifts.
    • Must be able to work at heights as high as 35 feet on a scissor lift or on the top of equipment platforms.
    • Must be able to manufacture parts to within .001 of an inch.
    • Must be able to use a computer for purposes of entering work, email and other work related activities.
    • Follow all company and department policies.
    • Must be able to do shift work. This is a manufacturing facility that operates 24x7x365 days a year.
