  • Overview

    Produces press plates that meet quality standards and deadlines, coordinates with news, prepress and press room staff to ensure timely delivery of press plates, and maintains plate processors.

    Responsibilities

    • Produces press plates using Computer to Plate imagers, plate processors and plate benders.
    • Communicates with staff from news, page production and press to ensure timely delivery of plates and to notify all parties of equipment problems or production changes.
    • Provides continuous quality checks of plates to ensure that transmitted files are correct and that equipment is processing files correctly.
    • Checks dot percentages of plates to ensure linearity and quality output.
    • Employs software tools to direct plate output according to priority and to maximize throughput.
    • Performs cleaning of plate processors.
    • Communicates equipment problems to management and maintenance in an expeditious manner.
    • Abides by all safety and environmental policies, procedures and regulations.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.

       

    Qualifications

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS (Minimum qualifications and requirements needed to perform the essential responsibilities)

     

    • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
    • Ability to work under the pressure of multiple deadlines
    • 1 year experience in printing preferred
    • Knowledge of offset print process preferred
    • PC literacy a must, Mac literacy a plus
    • Previous experience with plate making equipment is a plus
    • Ability to operate a Powered Industrial Truck
    • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, etc

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.

     

    Physical Demands
