    Tribune Publishing’s Talent Management team is seeking a Senior HR Manager to partner with Leadership team of Virginia Media Group, inclusive of The Virginian-Pilot, Daily Press, The Virginia Gazette, The Coast, Style Weekly and other publications.  This position is perfect for the overachiever who loves working in a fast-paced and ever evolving environment. We are looking for someone who likes to drive innovation, takes ownership and drive employee and manager partnerships to success while rolling up their sleeves on a day-to-day basis.

     

    As a Senior HR Manager, you will be a trusted resource for your client groups and the go-to partner for the team members, managers, and leaders that you support. The right person for this role has successfully coached business leaders, managers, and team members, and is viewed as a credible and influential partner across their current organization.

    Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the business strategy by helping business leaders to identify, prioritize and build organizational capabilities, behaviors, structures and processes
    • Support line managers in forecasting and planning their talent pipeline requirements in line with the business strategy
    • Facilitate long-term initiatives aligned with the strategic agenda
    • Adjusting HR strategy to reflect changing business needs
    • Help the business unit manager to provide employees with development opportunities and ensure that they are able to meet current and future performance standards
    • Review and benchmark internal and external environment to improve the HR policies and initiatives
    • Act as a liaison between the line and HR to ensure that HR services are aligned with internal client needs
    • Identify new opportunities where HR can add value to the business
    • Maintain a knowledge of progressive HR practices and key trends
    • Ensure a strong leadership and coaching culture permeates the organization
    • Leading change across the company to help shape the company’s culture
    • Partners with leaders to provide counsel during reorganizations, restructuring , and downsizing workforce efforts when necessary
    • Ability to develop clear, actionable steps in support of an overall business strategy
    • Ability to use diagnostic and consultative organization design and development skills to assist in developing and identifying the next generation of leaders
    • Identifying and utilizing HR Metrics to assist management in resolving business related issues
    • Travel to our different Virginia Media offices as necessary

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, labor law, or other related field and 7 years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience, including leadership positions involving interface with senior management
    • Extensive knowledge of state and federal employment and labor laws, FMLA, ADA and current employee and labor relations practices is required
    • Demonstrated experience providing sound advice to management in the application of employment law
    • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, mediation facilitation and the dynamics of problem solving and negotiation
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential along with strong analytical and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to handle confidential and politically sensitive matters is required
    • Demonstrated ability to form effective working relationship with people at all levels within an organization and to successfully resolve problems in the workplace
