The Baltimore Sun seeks a hungry, enterprising reporter to cover breaking news in the metro area. The emerging news reporter will report on a wide variety of topics -- from traditional breaking news such as crime, fire and accidents to timely reports driven by our awareness of what readers need to know. This reporter will also develop their own quick-turnaround enterprise stories.
The reporter will build sources and mine the community and social media for leads. This reporter will frequently shoot their own video/stills but will also work closely with visual and digital journalists to tell stories in novel ways, reaching audiences on a variety of platforms.
The Baltimore Sun is committed to building a diverse newsroom that reflects the people it covers and the audience it serves. Candidates are encouraged to highlight new perspectives they can bring to our team.
Email emerging news editor Ellen Fishel (firstname.lastname@example.org) with a cover letter, resume (as a PDF), references and links to five clips that demonstrate a combination of breaking news, enterprise and audience engagement, as well as any other links that demonstrate how you’d fit in this role. No phone calls, please.
