The Orlando Sentinel is looking to fill a position on its Editorial Board. The primary duties of the job are to report and write editorials and a locally focused column.
Tribune Publishing is committed to hiring people with diverse backgrounds, voices and visions. Be yourself. Bring yourself. Because that’s the only way we will deliver on our mission to provide meaningful journalism to the diverse communities we serve. We hold ourselves accountable for fostering inclusion and opportunity across race, gender, age, creed, identity and experience. Join us.
For this hybrid job, we’re seeking a fearless journalist who’s equally comfortable writing institutional and personal opinions. We want someone who will engage the Central Florida community on a daily basis, particularly those in under-reported and under-served segments of the region.
The right person for this job pays close attention to the news, thinks critically, demonstrates curiosity, generates ideas, cultivates sources, grasps complex issues and data, writes creatively and conversationally, works well with a team and views journalism as both a job and a calling.
Candidates should be comfortable in public settings, whether serving as a speaker or a moderator. The Sentinel’s Editorial Board conducts and records numerous candidate interviews during elections for the purposes of endorsements, so candidates should possess sharp interviewing skills that will help viewers and readers make their voting selections.
This position will have a strong digital focus, so candidates should have a robust presence on social media and understand the need for digital immediacy.
Central Florida is a diverse community – racially, socially, ethnically and economically, and candidates for this job should understand that diversity and be prepared to reflect it in their work.
To apply, candidates should send examples of their work, a resume and a brief letter to Opinion Editor Mike Lafferty at email@example.com.
