We need someone who will zero in on the issues and details that most matter to readers, a high-motor performer to provide a steady mix of breaking news, quickly and accurately, and deeper-dive explainers and investigative pieces, providing context and meaning behind the action.
A successful applicant will have a track record of consistently breaking significant stories and producing impact enterprise that demonstrates to readers how policy affects their lives. You should know how to develop sources and work a beat. You must work well under pressure, distilling complex issues into readable stories. You need an open mind to trying different ways of telling stories and new means of disseminating them to readers. You should have experience in diversifying the people and sources you include in stories, mindful of the rich diversity of the state. You must be resourceful, ethical and driven to do outstanding work. That includes maximizing your impact by paying attention to audience metrics and SEO and search practices.
