Tribune Publishing is seeking a remote Print Production Editorial Assistant to work in our Design and Production Studio, home to all print design for Tribune Publishing's newspapers across the country.


Duties for Print Production Editorial Assistant may vary within the team, but all involve preparing content or preparing content schedules for use by the Design and Production Studio (DPS). The editorial assistants may copy and paste content from one Content Management System (CMS) to another. Or track content as it makes its way from Tribune newsrooms to the DPS and into Tribune print products.


Some work may include preparing graphics, articles, photos and designs for publication in Tribune Publishing's print newspapers; proofing and typesetting newspaper pages for all Tribune Publishing newspapers; and editing and designing content to be shared across all Tribune Publishing newspapers.


This role can be based in any of these states: CA, CT, FL, IL, IN, MD, MI, MO, NJ, NY, PA, TX, VA

  • Coordinating vendor graphics for daily and non-daily publications across all markets
  • Editing content for length
  • Writing/editing headlines
  • Building editorial pages using templates
  • Pulling photos from wire services and other sources; cropping and toning photos for publication
  • Proofreading written material or pages for proper style and accuracy
  • Proofing colleague’s work for accuracy
  • Typesetting pages after making corrections
  • Troubleshooting issues when necessary
  • Meeting production deadlines and maintaining ideal page flow under minimal to moderate supervision
  • Striving to meet specific individual goals to be assigned on a regular basis by supervisor


An editorial assistant should:

  • Possess initiative, attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. 
  • Be able to multitask and perform well under constant deadlines with only moderate supervision
  • Have a strong command of the English language and the ability to learn editing and design skills
  • Carry out all assignments and job duties in a manner consistent with the professional and ethical standards of journalism



  • College degree with a major in journalism, communications, language arts or similar. Or comparable experience, such as a year of employment in a professional office dealing with language or design.
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English.
  • Must be able and willing to work irregular hours and holidays as necessary
