Overview

The Baltimore Sun Media Group is now hiring for on-site Desktop Support! The Desktop Support role is to support and maintain organizational computer systems, desktops, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all organizational computer equipment while ensuring optimal performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via work order) in a timely and accurate fashion; and provide end-user assistance where required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, specify/recommend, procure, install, and troubleshoot hardware, software, and peripherals including MAC and Windows OS for end users and production environment computers
  • Collaborate with Technology team members to ensure efficient operation of the organization's desktop computing environment
  • Provides advice and guidance to colleagues regarding incidents
  • Maintain end user and production computers with routine maintenance
  • Identify, log, and resolve technical problems with software applications
  • Ensure that work is carried out within agreed service levels and in accordance with department guidelines
  • Provide courteous and expedient customer service to end users and co-workers that demonstrates the highest level of teamwork

Qualifications

  • An associate degree in Information Technology or a relevant field
  • Experienced in providing professional and courteous customer service 
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Good problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Good Understanding of Computer Support and Troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Windows and Mac OSX operating systems
  • Able to work in a team as well as independently
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time
  • Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals
  • Able to travel to other sites
