The Baltimore Sun seeks an entrepreneurial, audience-savvy editor to help drive our emerging news coverage. Emerging news encompasses both traditional breaking news such as crime, fire, accidents, sports and weather as well as timely reports driven by what our audience needs to know. Urgent, smart, accurate coverage of these topics is key to furthering The Baltimore Sun’s status as the pre-eminent news source in the region.   This person would be responsible for monitoring breaking news and assigning, editing and producing content in varied formats that serves our audience. They would program content on The Sun’s website, and they would help execute our community engagement practices, such as programming newsletters, email, web and desktop alerts, and social media platforms.    This role requires hyper-alertness to news and keen news judgment. The Chicago Tribune is seeking a deputy senior content editor to help edit and manage editorial workflow for news topic teams, including business, real estate and food. As deputy senior content editor, you will possess strong news judgment and apply digital skills and understanding of what drives audience engagement. You will work in a fast-paced newsroom that requires all editors to juggle multiple responsibilities on any given day. Key responsibilities will include planning, assigning, writing and editing stories for our print, digital and email products.   Relevant skills include: - Strong editing skills with the ability to transform a story and help a writer deliver work that merits publication in the Chicago Tribune. - Ability to juggle multiple tasks with very little supervision, while being quick, accurate and meeting deadlines. - Ability to make smart, data-driven decisions on story promotion, inclusion and emphasis across all platforms, from sites to apps to email newsletters to social to alerts, to reflect the Tribune’s brand and mission. - Familiarity with tools used to measure performance of digital content, including Chartbeat, Google Analytics, Metrics for News, Parse.ly or Omniture. - Ability to work independently while also able to operate efficiently in a team dynamic. - Solid grasp of the rules of grammar, spelling, punctuation and AP style. The Morning Call in Allentown, Pa., is looking for a Senior Content Editor to help us grow audience across all of our digital platforms as well as print and mobile. The Senior Content Editor is responsible for supervising and developing reporters in the following areas of focus: Growth and Development, Education, Health Care and Urban Affairs.   The Senior Content Editor is responsible for assigning, editing and enhancing audience-focused content, from breaking news to enterprise and investigative stories to newsletters. This includes working directly with reporters, visual journalists and database journalists on content development and execution, editing text and writing compelling headlines.   We work remotely, but communicate multiple times daily with direct reports via Slack messages, phone calls, and meetings. The Baltimore Sun seeks a sharp, analytical and audience-savvy writer and content editor who is comfortable straddling the worlds of both opinion and news. In this role, you will shape opinion coverage across media platforms by helping select, edit and publish staff and reader-written opinion content as needed. As a member of the editorial board and an opinion writer, you will analyze issues and generate ideas that serve the public good, resulting in timely and provocative editorials and columns.
