The Virginia Gazette is looking for a news reporter, this position is located in WIlliamsburg. The ideal candidate will have a digital-first approach to news, embrace social media, have the ability to develop sources and be a versatile storyteller. We want someone who can cover spot news and file on a tight deadline, but who also can develop enterprise stories and localize trends and topics. We are looking for someone who works well in a collaborative environment and is able to use analytics to find stories that appeal to reader interests.

We are seeking a versatile editor to lead our morning online news coverage — in many ways the most important part of our news cycle.
You should be an experienced news hound who knows how to pull interesting details from an arrest sheet. You will be posting quick reports on the most recent trending stories, breaking news, and critical information our readers need to know right when they wake up — from weather to traffic and more. You will manage and direct reporters so you must be skilled at quickly editing raw reporter copy into compelling stories.
You should be comfortable making news judgments to program the homepage of a website with millions of visitors each month. You should know how to write social media posts that reach and engage our readers on all platforms. You should know how to write compelling headlines and breaking-news alerts.
We’re also looking for someone who understands audience trends and metrics to make sure we’re covering the topics that matter most to our readers.
